Dr. Milton Herring

Dr. Milton Herring is a passionate international marketplace leader, public speaker, author, and former City council member for Torrance, California. With a profound commitment to service, Dr. Herring is a retired Chaplain who served both the U.S. Army, two tours in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Throughout his military career, he provided encouragement to Soldiers in combat and guided veterans towards spiritual wholeness. His book, Advancing the Kingdom: Prayer Strategies for the 21st Century Church, reflects his teachings on Marketplace Kingdom ministry that have inspired many to pursue entrepreneurial ventures and careers in various fields, including entertainment and government.

Dr. Herring has an extensive career in community service, including roles in the State of Georgia's Department of Human Services and as General Manager of the Stovall Foundation Senior Citizen Housing in Los Angeles, where he successfully managed two high-rise facilities and secured significant funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development for housing initiatives Los Angeles, Ca.

His military journey began with the United States Air Force, where he received an honorable discharge as E-4, in 1973, followed by a distinguished tenure as a chaplain in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1985 until his retirement in 2009 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. As a hospital Chaplain for the Veterans Administration from 1984 to 2012, he actively served the needs of veterans in the areas of mental health and hospice care.

In addition to his military and pastoral experiences, Dr. Herring has held several government positions. He was a Traffic Commissioner and Planning Commissioner in Torrance before serving on the City Council from 2016 to 2020, where he was instrumental in overseeing a $300 million budget, addressing community challenges for the un-housed.

Dr. Herring is a founding member and past president of the Los Angeles Chapter of Blacks In Government, a member of the NAACP's Atlanta chapter, and has served as president of both the Lions and Kiwanis Clubs in Torrance. He is also a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Vietnam Veterans Association.

 Dr. Herring's accolades include the 1995 Chaplain of the Year award from the Department of Veterans Affairs and many military honors, such as the Meritorious Service Medal and the Legion of Merit. His educational achievements include degrees from Morehouse College, the Interdenominational Theological Center, and leadership development from the Southern California School of Ministry.

He is happily married to Yvonne Herring, together they have six children and several grandchildren. Together they are committed to building a family that glorifies God.
